Shoreline Preservation

The Board of Governors of Rio Vista Community Association places the highest priority on preventing erosion of community owned property. Shoreline erosion affects the lands that border the Miles River and includes the Community Picnic Area, the Community Dock and the area at the end of Cove Road. These areas are reserved for use by residents in good standing and their guests.

The Board devotes a significant portion of each annual budget to repairing, replacing and upgrading erosion-preventing armor rocks and to identifying measures that can be taken to prevent further loss of ground. A recent preventative action taken was to plant grass on the peninsula of land at the community dock. Future plans include installation of filter cloth under any rip rap presently in place that lacks this essential upgrade and addition of armor rock where needed.

Rio Vista residents can enjoy the natural resources of this part of the Eastern Shore because we have water access by way of the Community Dock and because there is a clean, family friendly and very accessible Community Picnic Area right on the Miles River.

These community owned properties are heavily used during good weather by boaters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. They provide a pleasant environment for all ages in our community association who love the outdoor life. And don’t forget, the presence of these wonderful areas adds to the value of Rio Vista Community Association homes.
